Zeitgenössische, moderne Aquarelle: Realisitisch und surreal.
Inspiration erhalte ich von Fotos auf Instagram und Pinterest, die ich in Situationen zusammenstelle, die trotz oder gerade wegen ihrer Befremdlichkeit anziehend, ironisch, belustigend oder absurd wirken.
Von den ersten Versuchen mit Aquarell als Jugendliche, haben ein Schmincke Aquarell-Kasten und ein 300g Hot-Press Block alle Umzüge überlebt.
40 Jahre später ist dieser alte Aquarell-Kasten und das Papier in einem Karton wieder aufgetaucht und auf wunderbare Weise sind die Pigmente mit etwas Geduld und Wasser wieder lebendig geworden – und seither geblieben.

Audubons Nightmare
Im Zyklus Audubons Nightmare finden sich Porträts von Vögeln in einer realistisch, surrealen Perspektive. John James Audubon war ein amerikanischer Ornithologe der Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts. Er schuf mit The Birds of America ein immer noch zitiertes Standardwerk mit phantastischen Aquarellen zur Illustration. Ich finde es ganz wunderbar, Vögel zu porträtieren, deren fixierender Blick etwas Unmittelbares und Wissendes zugleich besitzt.
Il ciclo Audubon's Nightmare presenta ritratti di uccelli in una prospettiva realistica e surreale. John James Audubon era un ornitologo americano della metà del XIX secolo. Con The Birds of America ha creato un'opera di riferimento ancora oggi citata, con fantastici acquerelli a corredo delle illustrazioni. Trovo meraviglioso ritrarre uccelli il cui sguardo fisso ha qualcosa di immediato e allo stesso tempo sapiente.
The Audubon's Nightmare cycle features portraits of birds in a realistic, surreal perspective. John James Audubon was an American ornithologist in the mid-19th century. With The Birds of America, he created a standard work that is still cited today, with fantastic watercolours for illustration. I find it quite wonderful to portray birds whose fixed gaze has something immediate and knowing at the same time.
